Amboise was a sort of capital, a medieval fortress and later a refined royal residence, whose furniture and gardens showcase the French art of living. Listed as a historical monument in 1840, the Royal Chateau of Amboise is one of the emblematic sites in the Loire Valley. Built above a rocky valley, the 15th and 16th century castle and its landscaped gardens overlook an exceptional panorama listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Le Clos Lucé, the final place of residence of Leonardo da Vinci, showcases the genius of the master who lived there from 1516 to 1519 upon the invitation of François 1st. The delicate red brick and white tuffeau stone building is harmoniously proportioned. Inside, the 800-year old Clos Lucé reveals the multiple talents of Leonardo da Vinci. The royal domain of Chateau Gaillard, the “forgotten royal paradise” by gardener Dom Pacello, is a major Renaissance monument on 15 hectares of land in the heart of Amboise, just a 15-minute walk away. The chateau is a must see, after five years of restoration. The domain was home to France’s first Renaissance gardens that you can discover in a unique or romantic way. Chateau de Chenonceau, also known as the ladies’ chateau, is a must see among the Loire chateaux. This jewel of French historical monuments is only a 20-minute drive from the hotel, open every day of the year. Visit the interiors to understand the unique history of Chenonceau, which was lived in and run by women such as Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici. In addition to the museum’s permanent collection, the chateau also regularly presents a wonderful range of fresh flowers.

Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire is located between the cities of Blois and Amboise (20 minutes from the hotel, with its amazing interiors and superb park. Built around the year 1000 to guard the border between the counties of Blois and Anjou, Chaumont-sur-Loire is now home to the International Garden Festival.
